Kyle: The survivability of Paladin makes them my favorite tank. Plus, Red Mages get some great utility by being able to cure and raise players, putting this job squarely in the jack of all trades category. You build up your magic by balancing black and white mana then unleash all your magical fury in a melee burst phase, all the while looking sick with backflips and twirls. Mary: Red Mage is a melee caster that has the best of both worlds. Dark Knight is one of the very few job quests with a great storyline to go along with it, too.
If you ask a typical Dark Knight player if they’re into Swedish melodic death metal, the answer will be “yes” nine times out of 10. Nick: For people who dig rhythm games, or for anyone who wants a mobile, ranged DPS that also brings some additional team utility. The limited mobility is a drawback, but managing space on the battlefield and finding areas where you can plant yourself and cast is part of the challenge. Nick: If you’re into blowing stuff up with spectacular explosions of damage, Black Mage is for you. And if you don’t? You get a cute little bunny that sits on your head to showcase your failure. Mary: Ninja’s unique combo system of stringing different Ninjutsus together to perform attacks feels so great when pulled off correctly. A beefy tank whose entire mindset is pure caveman instinct as you smash your axe in your opponent’s face over and over. Mary: Aren’t you tired of being nice? Don’t you want to go completely feral? That, in essence, is what Warrior is all about. You won’t bring much to a group outside of damage, but if you’re the type of person that just wants to see massive numbers on the screen, Samurai is for you. Nick: Carry a huge sword and deal some of the highest personal DPS in the game. Playing a Summoner also levels the Scholar job simultaneously, which means you won’t have to start the leveling process over if you want to play a healing class. If you liked Final Fantasy 10 and the Aeon system, Summoner is the job for you. Nick: Summoners deal damage alongside awesome primals. Nick: A gun-toting ranged DPS class that is relatively simple to level, but adds complexity as you unlock later abilities. It’s a great job for learning fights because of that movement too. All of the benefits of ranged-DPS with next to no cast bars holding you down.
It’s a pretty complex job that’s not the most beginner friendly, but done well Scholar can be a satisfying experience with how much micromanaging you do. Mary:Scholar is the pet healer in Final Fantasy 14, as you get a cute little fairy companion to help you dole out spells and debuffs to yourself and your party. Mary: Do you want to punch god in the face with your fists? Then do I have a job for you! Monk relies heavily on positionals, so be prepared to always be on the move as you keep up your combos in this fast-paced job. Joining me for these rankings are FTW editor and columnist Nick Schwartz and GLHF’s Kyle Campbell. With Endwalker set to add two new jobs into the fray - the scythe-wielding DPS Reaper and the technology-and-magic mix healer Sage - we thought it’d be fun to rank all the current jobs Final Fantasy 14 offers ahead of the new expansion! Best of all? You don’t have to make alternate characters to play all the jobs in Final Fantasy 14, as every character can learn every job in the game as long as you unlock it and fulfill the level requirements.
